About the Role
As Senior Manager of Regulatory Compliance, you will play a key role within Nium's Regulatory Compliance team, supporting regulatory obligations and financial crime prevention across the Americas, with a primary focus on the United States. You will work closely with the Head of Regulatory Compliance for the Americas, and BSA Officer for Nium, Inc., and jurisdictional MLROs to ensure compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), anti-money laundering requirements, and state money transmitter and MSB requirements. You will manage client onboarding, oversee transaction monitoring escalations, and lead the detection and prevention of financial crime, including money laundering and terrorist financing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the development and implementation of Financial Crime and AML methodology to manage regulatory risk and ensure adherence to Bank Secrecy Act requirements and Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) regulations.
- Monitor changes to AML/CTF, sanctions, and licensing requirements across all Americas jurisdictions in which Nium operates or is pursuing licensure, including US federal and state requirements, and ensure the organization promptly adapts its processes, policies, and procedures.
- Serve as a day-to-day point of contact for regulators on AML/CTF and licensing matters across the Americas, including FinCEN and state money transmitter regulators in the US, and coordinate regulator engagement with the Head of Regulatory Compliance for the Americas and the relevant BSA Officer or MLRO.
- Identify control gaps and lead the implementation of control enhancements in AML, OFAC, and Regulatory Compliance.
- Support compliance oversight and testing activities and oversee internal reporting on AML/CTF internal controls, fraud, and periodic compliance matters.
- Act as a subject matter expert for the business and management on compliance-related matters across the Americas, with particular depth on US requirements.
- Review and provide recommendations on high-risk institutional client relationships across the Americas, including financial institutions and Banking as a Service clients, for approval under Nium's risk acceptance framework.
- Support external audits and regulatory examinations across the Americas, including AML audits, US state examinations, and other jurisdictional reviews, and coordinate responses to bank partner requests.
- Lead the AML/CTF risk assessment process for each Americas jurisdiction across product, service, customer, and geographic dimensions, feeding into the enterprise risk assessment maintained by the BSA Officer. Identify control gaps and develop remediation plans.
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of FinCEN reports, including Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs), in accordance with legal deadlines.
- Support advisory initiatives to improve and streamline compliance operational processes and systems through automation and technology.
- Support the rollout and ongoing management of the Compliance Training Framework.
- Participate in Compliance or business-driven projects, including regulatory developments and strategic initiatives.
- Support the licensing and registration compliance program across the Americas, including US state money transmitter licensing, FinCEN MSB registration, and equivalent obligations in other jurisdictions. Own regulatory requirement tracking, periodic reporting obligations, and change management for these requirements.
- Oversee and manage significant regulatory and independent program audits, including examination preparation, response coordination, findings remediation, and validation of corrective action plans to closure.
Requirements:
- 10-12 Years of experience (minimum) within regulated financial services or payments companies in senior compliance roles, with robust knowledge of compliance topics (KYB / KYC, AML/CFT, sanctions, money transmitter licensing, etc.), ideally including exposure to the US and at least one other Americas jurisdiction.
- Experience in multi-jurisdictional compliance roles, with exposure to US requirements (BSA, FinCEN, state money transmitter) and/or AML/CTF and licensing regimes in Canada, Mexico, Brazil, or other Americas markets.
- Deep understanding of the regulatory environment of the payments and fintech industry in the Americas, with particular depth in the United States.
- ACAMS or CRCM certification (preferred) or relevant professional compliance certification.
- Experience with correspondent banking, banking as a service, or Financial Institution clients from the Americas region.
- Strong analytical skills with experience in problem-solving and implementing compliance solutions.
- Demonstrate clear sense of accountability in performing the role and a positive demeanor.
- Ability to identify risks, control gaps, and inefficiencies; see the bigger picture, challenge the current status quo and define scalable and sustainable processes and methodology.
- Ability to lead end-to-end process and control improvements cross-functionally and across various regions.
- Able to prioritize quickly and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Team player with strong collaborative qualities, including demonstrated ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to communicate in fluent spoken and written English.
- Demonstrated experience building, managing, or materially contributing to a money transmitter or money services business compliance program.
- Significant experience engaging regulators and managing regulatory examinations and independent program audits in the US and/or other Americas jurisdictions.
