About the role
The Project Engineer II – Electrical & Mechanical Systems is responsible for the technical execution of engineered-to-order projects from post-order handoff through design, manufacturing, factory testing, startup readiness, and project closeout. As part of Sales Execution Engineering, this role converts customer and contract requirements into executable mechanical and electrical deliverables while supporting cost, schedule, quality, safety, and customer commitments.
The position serves as a multidisciplinary technical bridge among Sales, Applications Engineering, Project Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Field Service, Product Management, suppliers, and customers. The engineer provides local support in Holland for equipment integration, factory acceptance testing, troubleshooting, and feedback into product standardization.
Core Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Serve as the technical execution lead for assigned projects, coordinating mechanical, electrical, controls, and system-integration activities.
- Review order documentation, customer specifications, scope, budget assumptions, and schedule requirements during project handoff.
- Translate requirements into clear engineering deliverables, milestones, and technical decisions.
- Partner with the Project Manager to identify cost, schedule, quality, safety, and technical risks and recommend options.
- Maintain disciplined documentation of design basis, assumptions, deviations, changes, risks, and approvals.
- Coordinate technical work performed by internal resources, suppliers, and third-party engineering partners.
- Review and support mechanical systems including skids, structures, piping, pumps, valves, vessels, instrumentation, and equipment interfaces.
- Review and support electrical systems including power distribution, motor controls, control panels, VFDs, wiring, grounding, and communication interfaces.
- Interpret and review P&IDs, general arrangements, fabrication drawings, electrical schematics, panel layouts, bills of material, load lists, I/O lists, and technical submittals.
- Perform or coordinate engineering calculations, software adaptations, equipment selection, component sizing, and design verification.
- Ensure designs consider manufacturability, maintainability, service access, safety, and applicable customer and regulatory requirements.
- Initiate and support engineering changes, drawing revisions, part creation, BOM updates, and configuration control.
- Provide hands-on engineering support to manufacturing and test teams at the Holland facility.
- Support production readiness, build reviews, equipment integration, functional testing, and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, controls, and interface issues using structured root-cause analysis.
- Coordinate rapid resolution of issues affecting assembly, testing, quality, shipment, or customer commitments.
- Verify that test results, punch-list items, corrective actions, and release criteria are documented and closed before shipment.
- Participate in technical customer meetings, design reviews, submittal reviews, and scope-clarification discussions.
- Communicate technical issues in business terms, including cost and schedule exposure, options, and recommended path.
- Coordinate with suppliers on component selection, technical documentation, fabrication, testing, and issue resolution.
- Support site readiness, commissioning preparation, startup, and transition to Field Service when required.
- Identify repeatable project content and convert lessons learned into standard designs, specifications, test procedures, and reusable deliverables.
- Participate in Engineering Change Notice (ECN), corrective-action, and product-improvement processes.
- Execute work in accordance with company safety, quality, environmental, and engineering requirements.
- Stop and escalate work when safety, compliance, product integrity, or customer acceptance is at risk.
High Impact Behaviors:
- Ownership & Accountability: Takes responsibility for assigned technical outcomes, follows issues through closure, and communicates risks early.
- Customer & Business Focus: Balances technical quality with customer commitments, project economics, schedule, and lifecycle needs.

- Continuous Improvement: Uses lessons learned and data to simplify work, strengthen standards, and improve predictable execution.
- Learning Agility: Expands capability across mechanical, electrical, controls, manufacturing, and product applications.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered in accordance with company requirements.
- Typically four or more years of experience in project engineering, design engineering, manufacturing engineering, testing, commissioning, or a related industrial environment.
- Working knowledge of mechanical equipment and systems such as piping, pumps, valves, vessels, skids, instrumentation, or fabricated assemblies.
- Working knowledge of electrical and controls fundamentals such as power distribution, motor controls, panels, VFDs, instrumentation, schematics, and industrial communications.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, specifications, BOMs, and technical submittals.
- Ability to perform structured troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and technical risk assessment mechanically and electrically.
- Experience coordinating work across global engineering, manufacturing, project management, suppliers, and customers.
