Overview:
Staff Engineers lead the technical direction and delivery of major platforms, products, or cross-team initiatives at Storable. They turn complex business and product problems into durable architecture, guide multiple engineering teams toward aligned solutions, and raise the quality of technical decisions across their domain.
This is a hands-on role with broad influence. You will work across Product and Engineering and partner with teams such as Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, Support, Finance, and Compliance to deliver reliable, scalable experiences across Storable's FMS, CRM, Commerce, Marketplace, and shared technology capabilities.
You will also help Storable adopt AI-native ways of working and build intelligent capabilities that improve customer outcomes, engineering productivity, and operational decision-making.
What you'll do every day:
- Own the technical direction for a major platform, product area, or cross-team domain, translating strategy into an executable architecture and roadmap.
- Design distributed systems, services, and data contracts that meet demanding requirements for scalability, availability, performance, and cost.
- Lead architecture evolution across multiple teams, including decomposition, interface harmonization, platform adoption, and migration planning.
- Stay hands-on by writing code, reviewing designs, prototyping solutions, and resolving the hardest technical issues in the critical path.
- Improve operational excellence through stronger observability, graceful degradation, incident learning, recovery practices, and clear service ownership.
- Partner with Product and business stakeholders to prioritize technical investments that improve customer experience, reduce transaction failures, and increase delivery speed.
- Design and deliver AI- and GenAI-enabled capabilities, including agent-callable interfaces, workflow automation, and intelligent decision support.
- Use AI tools to improve personal and team productivity, development quality, test coverage, documentation, and operational response.
- Influence engineers and leaders across teams without direct authority, building alignment around technical decisions and measurable outcomes.
- Mentor senior engineers, raise the bar for design and implementation, and create opportunities for others to take on broader technical scope.
What you need to bring:
- 10+ years of software development experience, including strong expertise in distributed systems, APIs, and service-oriented architecture.
- Experience leading the design and delivery of complex systems across multiple teams, with a record of turning architecture decisions into adopted solutions.
- Experience operating highly available, production-critical systems at meaningful scale, with strong judgment around performance, reliability, and cost.
- Demonstrated ability to influence across organizational boundaries, communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and build alignment without direct authority.
- A hands-on engineering practice: you write code, review designs, prototype solutions, and use production data to guide decisions.
- AI fluency, with experience using AI tools or GenAI techniques to improve engineering productivity, product capabilities, or operational workflows.
Bonus points:
- Experience with FMS, CRM, commerce, payments, or subscription systems, especially across multiple markets or regulatory environments.
- Experience with agentic systems, AI/GenAI application patterns, evaluation frameworks, or AI-native software development practices.
- Experience with resiliency engineering, including graceful degradation, blast-radius isolation, chaos testing, and production recovery.
- Experience building simulation, forecasting, experimentation, or ML-driven recommendation systems.
- Experience mentoring senior engineers and helping them grow toward Staff-level scope and technical judgment.
- Experience with international expansion, local payment methods, compliance requirements, or market-specific product adaptation.
All applicants must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States and able to work a hybrid schedule in our Bellevue, WA office.
Benefits and Perks:
- Generous health coverage for you and your family, including fully paid short- and long-term disability coverage and two-times base salary life insurance.
