At Scopely, we care deeply about what we do and want to inspire play, every day. We are a global team of game lovers who are developing, publishing and innovating the mobile games industry, connecting millions of people around the world daily.
Show us the money! As the Finance team, we're number crunchers with top-notch analytical and reporting skills. As a shared service, we get to work with all of Scopely's talented studios.
About the Role:
Reporting to the VP, Global Tax, the Senior Manager, Indirect Tax will be responsible for Scopely's global indirect tax activities, including compliance, accounting, taxability, audits, planning, and reporting.
As Scopely continues to expand its global footprint and portfolio, you'll work closely with Finance, Accounting, Legal, Engineering, and business teams to navigate complex indirect tax requirements and translate them into practical, scalable processes.
This is a hands-on opportunity to strengthen our global tax operations, improve how indirect tax is integrated into our systems and commercial activities, and help shape an efficient, well-controlled tax function that supports our continued growth.
What You Will Do:
- Manage global indirect tax compliance: Coordinate filings, payments, registrations, and renewals across jurisdictions, including U.S. sales and use tax, VAT/GST, digital services tax, gross receipts tax, and other transaction-based taxes. Partner with external advisors and internal stakeholders to ensure accurate, timely compliance.
- Oversee indirect tax accounting and reporting: Prepare or review tax accruals, payable and receivable balances, reconciliations, and related financial reporting across the U.S., EMEA, APAC, and other markets in collaboration with Accounting and Finance.
- Provide practical tax guidance: Monitor nexus, registration, taxability, and reporting obligations. Advise on indirect tax considerations for digital products, in-app purchases, subscriptions, web sales, promotions, live operations, merchandise, events, and other commercial initiatives.
- Support commercial and strategic initiatives: Evaluate indirect tax implications of app stores, payment providers, merchant-of-record arrangements, distribution channels, licensing agreements, contracts, new market launches, and M&A activities.
- Improve tax systems and data quality: Partner with Accounting, Finance Systems, and Engineering to strengthen tax processes across ERP, billing, and e-commerce systems, including configuration, testing, reporting, and implementation of indirect tax technology such as Avalara or Vertex.
- Coordinate audits and manage tax risk: Manage indirect tax audits, notices, inquiries, and information requests, working with tax authorities and external advisors to develop responses, resolve issues, and implement remediation.
- Monitor regulatory developments: Research changes in indirect tax legislation, assess business implications, document supportable tax positions, and communicate clear, actionable recommendations to non-tax stakeholders.
- Build scalable processes and controls: Improve compliance workflows, documentation, internal controls, automation, and data-quality checks. Serve as a global indirect tax subject matter expert and support the VP, Global Tax on strategic initiatives and special projects.
What We're Looking For:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Tax, Finance, or a related field, with 7+ years of progressive indirect tax experience, including strong U.S. sales and use tax and international VAT/GST experience.
- Strong technical knowledge of transaction-based taxes, including nexus, taxability, registrations, gross receipts tax, digital services tax, electronically supplied services, and multi-jurisdictional compliance.
- Experience advising on indirect tax matters involving digital products, subscriptions, e-commerce, platform distribution, and merchant-of-record or payment-provider arrangements.
- Strong accounting fundamentals and experience working with ERP, billing, e-commerce, or indirect tax technology systems, such as Oracle, Avalara, or Vertex.
- Experience coordinating indirect tax compliance, accounting, audits, and regulatory inquiries, including managing relationships with external advisors, vendors, and tax authorities.
- Advanced Excel skills, confidence working with large transactional data sets, and the ability to identify discrepancies, assess risks, and develop well-supported recommendations.
- Strong analytical, research, communication, and stakeholder-management skills, including the ability to explain complex tax matters clearly to Finance, Legal, Engineering, and other business partners.
- A collaborative, hands-on approach, sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities while improving processes and supporting business growth.
Bonus Points
- CPA, CTA, or equivalent professional qualification.
- Experience combining Big Four or other public accounting work with an in-house tax role.
- Experience supporting a multinational organization across multiple tax jurisdictions.
- Background in gaming, interactive entertainment, digital products, technology, or e-commerce.
- Experience with tax data automation, workflow improvement, or AI-supported productivity tools.
