About the role
Who we are:
Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations™ Cloud, a platform that enables organizations that depend on physical operations to harness Internet of Things (IoT) data to develop actionable insights and improve their operations. Samsara helps improve the safety, efficiency and sustainability of the physical operations that power our global economy, including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing.
Working at Samsara means you'll help define the future of physical operations and be on a team shaping product solutions including Video-Based Safety, Vehicle Telematics, Apps and Driver Workflows, and Equipment Monitoring. As part of a recently public company, you'll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term.
About the role:
Samsara's Customer Education team is looking for a creative Senior Instructional Designer. You'll be part of an energetic team that plays a key role in Samsara's growth and our customers' long-term success. Opportunities and challenges include developing learning strategies for key customer personas and industries, innovating in AI-driven instructional development, contributing new ways to scale our process and reach, and being a thought leader across Samsara.
This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the US except the San Francisco Bay Metro Area, NYC Metro Area, and Washington, D.C. Metro Area.
You should apply if:
- You want to impact the industries that run our world: The training you build helps customers use Samsara to keep drivers safe, get goods delivered on time, and keep critical operations running.
- You thrive on turning complexity into clarity: Our product is expanding quickly, and our customers range from fleet managers to frontline drivers to executives. You'll turn technical, fast-changing features into clear, engaging, and effective learning experiences for each audience.
- You're a natural collaborator: You'll partner with Customer Success, Product, Sales, and Implementation teams to understand customer struggles and build content that closes the gap. You'll work closely with a program manager who prioritizes the team's quarterly roadmap, and you're comfortable juggling multiple projects at once.
- You're excited about how learning is built now: You like to experiment with new tools, AI-assisted authoring, and faster development models, and you're energized by iterating quickly. You'll help scale content across on-demand courses, video, in-app learning, live sessions, and certifications.
- You are the architect of your own career: The Customer Education team is still shaping its future, so you'll have real autonomy and ownership. You'll own the learning journey for a product area, starting with Safety, and can grow as the team and product portfolio grow.
In this role, you will:
- Work with stakeholders across the company to define training requirements, learning goals and user needs for customers and partners
- Craft and build learning and credentialing experiences in different formats (online learning, audio, video, in-app, etc.) within the constraints of different templates and business requirements
- Leverage a wide range of tools (AI-based content authoring, multimedia) to develop content rapidly and iteratively
- Push yourself and the team to evolve processes and to discover and test new instructional development models and tooling
- Solicit reviews from partners and SMEs, and review others' content and assessments for effectiveness
- Own an assigned Samsara product area by monitoring updates, maintaining its curriculum, and partnering with leadership on incoming requests
- Build product expertise through self-directed research, available AI tools, and targeted collaboration with SMEs to validate content
- Design and write engaging and effective assessments
- Champion, role model, and embed Samsara's values and operating principles as we scale globally and across new offices
Minimum requirements for the role:
- 3-5+ years learning design or instructional design experience in a software/SaaS setting
- Knowledge of Instructional Design standard methodologies and a proven ability to craft learning content that is effective and engaging
- Ability to communicate abstract or technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences (visually and in writing)
- Ability to identify the best learning delivery formats (e.g., online learning, assessments, audio-based lessons) for a specific set of objectives
- Collaboration skills and teamwork
- Attention to design aesthetics and visual detail
- Knowledge of legacy and emerging content development tools such as Parta.io, Articulate, Camtasia, Zoom, Clueso, etc.
An ideal candidate also has:
- Comfort working within an AI-driven content development process, including AI-assisted authoring, review, and iteration
- Experience developing in-app training or contextual product education
