About the role
About the Team:
Business Marketing helps organizations understand and put OpenAI’s products to work. Our creative team brings that story to life across campaigns, launches, and everyday marketing experiences. We work closely with marketing partners to make ambitious, thoughtful creative work that connects with business audiences.
About the Role:
Motion design helps define how OpenAI communicates with business and technical audiences—across campaigns, product launches, customer storytelling, events, and ongoing brand experiences. As a Motion Designer on the B2B creative team, you will create motion work that makes complex technology understandable, compelling, and relevant to organizations exploring how AI can transform their work.
This is a hands-on role focused on craft and execution. You’ll work closely with designers, writers, producers, product marketers, and cross-functional partners to deliver motion that connects OpenAI’s products and research to customer needs and business outcomes while remaining clear, thoughtful, and consistent with the OpenAI brand.
To us, creativity is a team sport. Ideas get better when you talk them through and build on each other’s thinking. We value curiosity over certainty, kindness over ego, and the ability to balance craft with decisiveness.
This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.
In this role, you will:
- Design and produce motion assets for B2B marketing and communications, including integrated campaigns, product launches, customer stories, films, events, social content, web experiences, and presentations.
- Translate complex technical concepts and product capabilities into clear, engaging motion for business leaders, technical decision-makers, developers, and enterprise buyers.
- Develop visual narratives that connect OpenAI’s technology to customer needs, organizational change, and meaningful business outcomes.
- Collaborate with brand, product marketing, sales, communications, and other partners throughout the creative process—from initial concept through final delivery.
- Contribute to and apply OpenAI’s motion design principles and systems consistently across B2B channels and touchpoints.
- Develop storyboards, motion studies, and prototypes to explore ideas and communicate creative direction.
- Execute high-quality animations with strong attention to detail, pacing, typography, and consistency.
- Adapt work for multiple audiences, platforms, and formats while maintaining brand standards and the integrity of the underlying technical story.
- Partner with producers and project managers to scope work, manage timelines, and deliver on deadlines.
- Participate in reviews and critiques, providing and incorporating clear, constructive feedback.
You might thrive in this role if you have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Design, Animation, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 8+ years of experience in motion design, with a portfolio demonstrating strong brand, campaign, or B2B marketing work.
- Proficiency in industry-standard motion design and animation tools.
- Strong fundamentals in storytelling, timing, composition, typography, and visual systems.
- Experience translating complex products, technologies, or ideas into accessible and compelling creative work.
- Experience creating motion across B2B marketing and communications touchpoints.
- Ability to collaborate across creative and business disciplines and communicate design decisions clearly.
- Comfort working with evolving briefs, technical subject matter, and multiple stakeholder perspectives.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment with a high bar for quality.
Nice to have:
- Experience creating work for enterprise technology, AI, developer, or B2B audiences.
- Experience working on global brand, product marketing, or integrated B2B campaigns.
- Familiarity with motion systems or design systems for global brands.
- Experience partnering with product marketing, sales, product design, or engineering teams.
- Experience developing customer stories, event content, executive presentations, or sales-enablement creative.
- Exposure to emerging motion formats, including interactive, immersive, or real-time experiences.
