About the role
Role Summary The Soundscapes Lead reimagines the role of Lead Sound Designer and Music Director for a studio where the complete sonic world of productions is shaped through AI generation tools as much as traditional recording, composition, and mixing. This role is responsible for both the creative sound design of productions and for developing new sonic paradigms — AI-native audio forms and sound design languages that were previously too complex or expensive to realise.
Key Responsibilities
- Define the sonic identities of productions — sound design languages, music palettes, and audio world logic — and develop AI prompt and generation frameworks that communicate those identities reliably to audio generation tools
- Explore new sonic paradigms and audio storytelling forms specific to AI-augmented sound production, developing the studio's capacity to create sonic worlds that were previously beyond reach
- Design, direct, and lead complete audio across multiple simultaneous productions — dialogue, sound effects, Foley, music, and final mix — ensuring each is cinematically specific rather than generically atmospheric
- Develop prompt engineering frameworks, music generation prompts, and sound design guardrail policies for AI audio tools that produce intentional, creatively directed results
- Work closely with the Audio Systems Innovator to ensure the technical pipeline serves the creative sound vision of each production
- Mentor Creative Team ICs in the craft of screen audio — teaching the language of sound design, music, and how sound creates meaning, mood, and emotional truth in screen storytelling; the principles that distinguish a specific, cinematically intelligent sound design from a generic one; and how to make intelligent creative decisions from genuine sonic understanding. Develop ICs' habit of listening more critically to their own work before seeking supervisory input, and help them learn to make every production sound more specific, emotionally alive, and cinematically intentional. Identify and recommend ICs who demonstrate the sonic intelligence and creative ambition to advance into Soundscaper specialist roles
Requirements
- Active practice with AI audio generation tools — music generation, sound design synthesis, voice synthesis, spatial audio — with a portfolio of productions demonstrating the ability to direct AI toward specific, dramatically effective sonic outcomes
- Experience with prompt engineering for audio generation and audio conditioning approaches
- Substantial background as a sound designer, re-recording mixer, or composer across film or television — with produced work demonstrating craft mastery across the full audio post-production chain
- Proficiency in at least one professional DAW and familiarity with the full audio post-production workflow — from production sound through final mix and delivery
- Deep understanding of how sound functions as a storytelling instrument — dramatically, emotionally, and spatially — and the ability to develop that understanding in others
Spectacle Lead
Role Summary The Spectacle Lead reimagines the role of Lead VFX Supervisor for a studio where the visual effects pipeline is built around AI generation as much as traditional CG production — responsible for the seamless integration of generated, composited, and AI-synthesised imagery into productions, and for exploring new frontiers of visual spectacle that AI-native VFX makes possible.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and explore new visual spectacle paradigms — the effects, environments, and impossibilities that AI-native production can now reliably achieve — and develop the prompt systems, conditioning approaches, and generation policies that make them producible at quality
- Lead the design and execution of all visual effects across productions — integrating AI-generated, composited, and synthesised imagery with live or animated footage to produce seamless, photographically credible results
- Develop prompt engineering frameworks and image conditioning systems for AI VFX generation that produce directable, production-quality spectacle elements
- Hold AI-assisted VFX work to demanding photographic and optical standards — evaluating for photometric consistency, temporal stability, physics plausibility, and integration with surrounding material
- Work closely with the Visual Systems Innovator and Visual Storytelling Lead to ensure VFX elements are coherent with the overall image language from origin through delivery
- Mentor Creative Team ICs in the craft of visual effects and spectacle — teaching the language of photographic integration, physical credibility, and how spectacle creates wonder, danger, and emotional scale; the principles that distinguish VFX that is cinematically functional from imagery that is merely visually impressive; and how to make intelligent decisions from genuine craft understanding. Develop ICs' habit of critically evaluating their own VFX work before seeking supervisory input, and help them learn to make every production look more visually spectacular, cinematically integrated, and emotionally impactful. Identify and recommend ICs who show the technical depth and creative sensibility to advance into Spectacularist, Layerist, or 3D specialist roles
Requirements
- Active practice with AI image and video generation for VFX applications — experience directing AI tools toward specific, photometrically credible visual effects results, with a portfolio demonstrating real VFX integration quality
- Experience with AI VFX prompt frameworks, conditioning approaches, and integration pipelines
- Substantial background in VFX lead or compositing supervision across film or high-end television — with a track record of delivered VFX work demonstrating photographic integration craft
- Deep knowledge of compositing, CG pipeline, colour science, and the photographic principles governing VFX integration — sufficient to define and defend production quality standards
- Proficiency in at least one professional compositing environment (Nuke, After Effects, Fusion, or equivalent) and familiarity with at least one CG pipeline environment (Maya, Houdini, or equivalent)
