Solution Architect (Director)

Role Overview

GEP is hiring a Solution Architect to establish and own the architecture function for the Source-to-Contract (S2C) portfolio. The Solution Architect will combine strong domain knowledge of S2C applications with an architecture mindset, hands-on performance engineering skills, and the ability to drive SDLC improvements, while representing S2C in cross-functional forums across the wider enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture Ownership & Governance
  • Own end-to-end solution architecture across all modules within the S2C portfolio.
  • Act as the single point of authority for architecture governance — evaluating design approaches and taking final decisions on complex or contested design questions.
  • Define and maintain capability modeling for the S2C domain, mapping how S2C fits into GEP's broader enterprise architecture so future solutions have a clear place to be designed against.
Cross-Functional Engineering Partnership
  • Represent S2C in cross-functional architecture and engineering forums (e.g., dependencies with P2P, enterprise-wide initiatives such as “Godzilla”), and be empowered to make decisions on S2C's behalf.
  • Partner with the Enterprise Architecture organization to align S2C's architecture direction with the company's overall architecture vision.
Performance, Scalability & Non-Functional Engineering
  • Identify and design scalable, performance-oriented solutions to address customer-facing performance, scalability, and throughput challenges.
  • Bring seasoned expertise in non-functional engineering areas, including performance, scalability, security, and observability.
  • Partner with the S2C engineering team to propose and implement solutions to production-level performance and scale issues.
Technical Debt & Modernization
  • Proactively identify technical debt across S2C applications and own the roadmap to address it.
  • Bring prior experience modernizing legacy or aging systems, ideally within a B2B, enterprise-scale environment.
SDLC & Engineering Excellence
  • Assess the current software development lifecycle and identify opportunities for improvement in DevOps, CI/CD, and related engineering practices.
  • Introduce new ways of working that improve delivery speed and quality, in the spirit of ongoing initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Architecture & Engineering: 12+ years of significant experience in software architecture and engineering, with a track record of owning architecture for complex, enterprise-scale applications.
  • Architecture Design Patterns: Strong expertise in applying architecture design patterns to build scalable, resilient, and maintainable systems.
  • Cloud & DevOps Platform: Deep hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services and Microsoft Azure DevOps for managing the lifecycle of enterprise applications.
  • Microservices & Backend Development: Proven experience in developing microservices using C#, Python, and Node.js.
  • API Design: Comprehensive background in REST API design, development, and management.
  • Production Operations: Proven track record addressing performance, scalability, security, and observability challenges in production environments.
  • System Modernization: Experience driving tech debt modernization initiatives in complex, at-scale systems.
  • Domain Knowledge: Experience in source-to-contract, procurement, or comparable B2B enterprise SaaS domains is a plus, but not mandatory — the ability to learn and scale into the domain matters more than prior S2C-specific exposure.
  • Stakeholder Management: Strong stakeholder management skills; comfortable representing a domain in cross-functional forums and influencing decisions without direct authority.
  • SDLC & Process Improvement: Working knowledge of SDLC best practices, DevOps, and CI/CD, with a history of driving process improvements.
