About the role
Primary Responsibilities
- Demonstrated expertise in state tax compliance and tax accounting (including sales & use, property, and state income/franchise taxes) is required.
- Support preparation of all tax filings, mailings, and payments
- Assist with information requests from internal and external auditors
- Conduct detailed research and analysis of tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance for the organization
- Evaluate purchasing data for use tax reporting requirements
- Perform other related duties or assist with special projects
- Perform month-end income tax provisions
- Communicate across various departments to create and maintain efficient workflows
- Diagnose opportunities to improve effectiveness and efficiency of processes relating to tax related accounts
- Collaborate with the team to streamline processes, design new workflows when needed, implement new systems, and train new team members
- Use formulas and pivot tables to manage and analyze revenue streams and related data
- Work with the broader team on strategic initiatives relating to a wide variety of taxes applicable to our business
- Responsible for complex invoice level tax inquiries from field employees.
- Responsible for mentoring junior team members.
Skills & Qualifications
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Experience with tax software (e.g., Avalara, OneSource).
- Proficient in Excel, Google Sheet, or similar spreadsheet tools.
- Solid ability to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines.
- Process focused and detail-oriented individual who strives for accuracy.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Accounting or Tax.
- At least 2 years of experience, preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to sit at a desk while using a computer for long periods of time
