Database Architect

Position Overview:

Cloud Kinetics is looking for a Senior Database Architect to join our Proserv PoD (Practice on Demand) team. In this role, you will be deployed on AWS Professional Services engagements in India, working hands-on to design, architect, and deliver database solutions for enterprise customers on AWS. You will serve as the leading database expert, translating complex data requirements into scalable, secure, and high-performance cloud-native database architectures that align with AWS best practices and customer success criteria.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and architect enterprise-scale AWS database solutions spanning relational, NoSQL, in-memory, graph, and time-series database engines to meet diverse workload requirements.
• Develop comprehensive database architecture blueprints, data models, capacity plans, and migration strategies aligned with customer business objectives and AWS Well-Architected Framework principles.
• Evaluate and recommend the right AWS database service for each workload.
• Design for high availability, multi-AZ/multi-region failover, disaster recovery, and business continuity across all database tiers.
• Collaborate with Solutions Architects to integrate database designs into broader cloud architecture blueprints.
• Lead end-to-end database migration engagements, including assessment, schema conversion, data migration, validation, and cutover activities using AWS DMS and AWS SCT.
• Execute heterogeneous database migrations including Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, and commercial database to open-source or cloud-native migrations.
• Perform database performance tuning, query optimization, indexing strategy design, and execution plan analysis across relational and NoSQL database engines on AWS.
• Implement caching strategies using Amazon ElastiCache to reduce database load and improve application response times.
• Implement AWS database security best practices including encryption, IAM database authentication, VPC network isolation, and AWS Secrets Manager.
• Design and implement Database DevOps pipelines using CI/CD tooling to automate schema migrations and deployments.
• Develop database automation scripts and infrastructure-as-code templates using Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, and/or AWS CDK.
• Configure database monitoring and observability solutions using Amazon CloudWatch, Amazon RDS Performance Insights, and AWS CloudTrail.
• Mentor junior database engineers and team members across the ProServ PoD team.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10–14 years of overall experience in database architecture, database engineering, or data platform roles.
• 5–7 years minimum of hands-on experience designing and implementing database solutions on AWS in production environments.
• Proven experience leading database migration engagements, including heterogeneous migrations to AWS-managed database services.
• Demonstrated expertise in both relational and NoSQL database design, data modelling, and query optimisation.

Technical Skill:

• Deep hands-on expertise with AWS relational database services: Amazon RDS and Amazon Aurora.
• Strong proficiency with AWS NoSQL and specialty database services: Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon DocumentDB, Amazon ElastiCache, Amazon Keyspaces, Amazon Timestream, and Amazon QLDB.
• Hands-on experience with Amazon Neptune for graph database workloads.
• Strong SQL skills including advanced query writing, stored procedure development, and query tuning.
• Experience with Amazon Redshift for data warehousing workloads.
• Scripting and automation skills in Python, Bash, and/or SQL.

Certifications:

• AWS Certified Database – Specialty (required).
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or Professional (required or in progress).
