Role Overview
We are looking for a Technical Product Manager / Techno-Functional Product Manager to own and manage engineering tools and platforms from a product, process, and stakeholder management perspective.
The role will partner closely with Engineering, IT, DevOps, Architecture, Business, and other stakeholders to understand their needs, define requirements, manage the product roadmap and backlog, prioritize enhancements, and continuously improve engineering processes and tool adoption.
The ideal candidate combines strong product management and functional/process skills with sufficient technical depth to work effectively with engineering teams.
This is not primarily a hands-on software development role. The candidate should, however, be technically comfortable with software engineering processes, enterprise tools, integrations, APIs, workflows, and technical discussions.
Engineering tools may include platforms such as GitHub, ALM, Salesforce, Jira, Azure DevOps, CI/CD platforms, and other enterprise engineering/productivity tools. Direct expertise in every listed platform is not mandatory.
Key Responsibilities
- Own assigned engineering tools/platforms as products, including vision, roadmap, backlog, priorities, and continuous improvement.
- Define product objectives and enhancement priorities based on business and engineering needs.
- Evaluate existing tool capabilities and identify opportunities for optimization, automation, integration, and improved user experience.
- Manage tool lifecycle activities including enhancements, upgrades, adoption, and retirement where applicable.
- Engage with Engineering and business stakeholders to identify requirements, pain points, and process gaps.
- Translate business and engineering needs into epics, user stories, functional requirements, acceptance criteria, and product specifications.
- Analyze existing workflows and identify opportunities for standardization, simplification, and automation.
- Prioritize requirements based on business value, engineering impact, effort, risk, and dependencies.
- Work closely with Engineering, DevOps, Architecture, IT, and technical teams on tool capabilities and solutions.
- Understand tool architecture, workflows, APIs, integrations, data flows, authentication, and system dependencies at a conceptual level.
- Participate in technical discussions and translate between functional/business requirements and technical implementation.
- Coordinate with engineering teams through design, development/configuration, testing, release, and deployment.
- Develop and maintain the product/tool roadmap.
- Own and continuously prioritize the product backlog.
- Facilitate backlog refinement, prioritization, planning, and release discussions.
- Track delivery, risks, dependencies, and issues across multiple teams.
- Communicate roadmap, priorities, decisions, and delivery status to stakeholders and leadership.
- Serve as the primary product point of contact for assigned engineering tools.
- Build strong relationships with Engineering Managers, Architects, Developers, QA, DevOps, IT, and Business teams.
- Manage competing requirements and facilitate alignment across stakeholders.
- Drive tool adoption through communication, documentation, training, and process improvements.
- Collect user feedback and incorporate insights into the roadmap.
- Monitor tool usage, adoption, user feedback, and effectiveness.
- Define and track relevant product/process metrics.
- Identify opportunities to improve engineering productivity and reduce manual effort.
- Drive continuous improvement of engineering processes supported by the tools.
