About the role
About Anthropic:
Anthropic's mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
About the role:
Anthropic's mission is to ensure that the world safely makes the transition through transformative AI. Security is one of the clearest places where that mission plays out. Anthropic's Applied AI organization is building a dedicated Security team to help security customers use Claude to review code at scale, find vulnerabilities before attackers do, and work through alert queues. You will be the first leader of this team and build it from zero.
You will decide which security customers the team serves first, who you hire and in what order, and how the team works with Sales, Applied AI Engineering, and security, legal, and trust partners. You will also stay hands-on with a few of the most important security customers, and set the standard for how security customers use Claude responsibly, including where a person must review output before anyone acts on it.
What you'll do:
- Hire, onboard, and develop the first Applied AI Architects on the Security team. Coach senior and early-career architects differently, and give each one clear goals.
- Decide where the team spends its time, including which segments and account types come first, which deals get architect coverage, and how to say no clearly when demand outruns headcount.
- Partner with security account executives on joint account plans, pipeline and forecast reviews, and deals where the customer's security review sets the close date.
- Guide customers from discovery through evaluations and proofs of concept with written success criteria, then take them to sustained workloads such as application security in the development lifecycle, continuous automated penetration testing, alert triage and investigation, and vulnerability and threat intelligence.
- Work alongside security ISVs, systems integrators, and managed security providers in customer accounts, keeping a clear line between what Anthropic delivers and what partners deliver.
- Bring in Applied AI Engineers and security, legal, and trust teams when a customer's build or review needs them.
- Write the first security playbooks, reference implementations, and evaluation approaches, and bring what you learn back to Product, Engineering, and Research.
- Carry a small number of strategic security accounts yourself, from executive briefings with CISOs to hands-on workshops with their engineers.
You may be a good fit if you:
- Have 12+ years of industry experience with at least 4 years managing a team of customer-facing technical people, such as solutions architects, sales engineers, or security consultants, and can show how the team grew and performed under you.
- Have hands-on security depth in at least one area, such as application security, detection and response, offensive security, or vulnerability management. Application security experience is highly preferred.
- Have used LLMs for real security work, such as code review, vulnerability discovery, triage, or investigation, and can say where they helped and where they failed.
- Have worked large enterprise security deals end to end, including customer security reviews, in close partnership with sales.
- Care about making AI both safe and useful for defenders, and can explain security risk and value to a CISO and to the engineers who will run the work.
Compensation:
The annual compensation range for this role is listed in the posting. For sales roles, the range is On Target Earnings (OTE), including both sales commission/bonus target and annual base salary.
Logistics:
- Minimum education: Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
- Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.
- Minimum years of experience: Correlates with the internal job level requirements for the position.
- Location-based hybrid policy: Staff are expected to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time, and some roles may require more.
- Visa sponsorship: Anthropic sponsors visas for some roles and candidates, and retains an immigration lawyer to help with this.
How we're different:
Anthropic works as a single cohesive team on a few large-scale research efforts, values impact over smaller and more specific puzzles, views AI research as an empirical science, and greatly values communication skills.
Come work with us:
Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. It offers competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and an office space for collaboration.
