Job Description
Role:
Technical Lead / Backend Engineer – Java, React & AWS
Key responsibilities:
1. Technical Leadership and Delivery
- Lead technical delivery across Java backend services, React applications, APIs, integrations, databases, AWS and application DevOps.
- Translate product requirements into technical designs, development tasks and estimates.
- Drive technical discussions and make informed engineering decisions.
- Define technical approaches, identify dependencies and communicate risks and trade-offs to stakeholders.
- Coordinate development activities across distributed engineering teams.
- Mentor backend and full-stack developers and provide technical guidance.
- Collaborate with mobile engineers, QA, DevOps and product teams.
2. Backend Engineering
- Design and develop scalable backend services using Java.
- Develop RESTful APIs, business logic and system integrations.
- Build reliable and maintainable backend components for enterprise applications.
- Design solutions for asynchronous processing and distributed workflows.
- Apply appropriate design patterns, coding standards and software engineering best practices.
- Troubleshoot complex backend and production issues.
- Ensure backend services meet requirements for scalability, security, reliability and performance.
3. AWS and Cloud-Native Development
- Design and support cloud-based applications using AWS.
- Develop and maintain AWS Lambda functions and serverless services.
- Work with Java, Python or Node.js for selected Lambda functions, integrations and supporting services.
- Design cloud-native solutions using appropriate AWS services.
- Support application deployments and troubleshoot cloud-related issues.
- Improve application reliability, scalability, monitoring and operational performance.
4. React and Frontend Architecture
- Provide technical guidance for React.js and TypeScript/JavaScript applications.
- Review frontend architecture and code to ensure maintainability and quality.
- Collaborate with frontend engineers on application design and API integration.
- Troubleshoot frontend and backend integration issues.
- Ensure consistent engineering standards across frontend and backend development.
- Contribute to full-stack technical decisions where required.
5. Database and Data Management
- Design and optimize relational database structures and data models.
- Write and optimize SQL queries for application performance.
- Analyze database performance and identify opportunities for optimization.
- Ensure effective data access patterns across backend services.
- Work with appropriate database technologies based on application and scalability requirements.
6. Architecture, Security and Scalability
- Make architectural decisions related to scalability, security, performance, reliability and maintainability.
- Design and contribute to service-oriented and microservices-based architectures.
- Implement secure API and application design practices.
- Work with authentication and authorization mechanisms.
- Identify architectural bottlenecks and implement solutions to improve system performance and reliability.
- Establish reusable technical patterns and engineering standards.
7. CI/CD, Deployment and Production Support
- Manage application-level CI/CD processes and build automation.
- Support Docker-based application deployment and deployment automation.
- Participate in release planning, deployments and release troubleshooting.
- Troubleshoot production issues and coordinate resolution across engineering teams.
- Improve application logging, monitoring and alerting.
- Work with DevOps teams to improve deployment reliability and operational efficiency.
- Maintain effective production-support practices and documentation.
8. Quality Engineering and Testing
- Partner with QA teams to improve automated testing and regression coverage.
- Encourage effective unit, integration and API testing practices.
- Review test strategies for critical backend and API functionality.
- Support performance testing and production-readiness activities.
- Ensure releases meet established quality and reliability standards.
9. Documentation and Technical Communication
- Maintain architecture and system-design documentation.
- Document APIs, deployment processes and production-support procedures.
- Communicate technical risks, dependencies, estimates and trade-offs clearly.
- Ensure technical decisions and operational processes are documented for distributed teams.
- Support knowledge sharing and technical onboarding within the engineering team.
