Role overview

We are seeking a Lead Front End Engineer with strong expertise in React, JavaScript/TypeScript and Tailwind CSS to lead the implementation of a modern Client Portal web application as a scalable Single-Page Application (SPA).

The role will focus on building secure, responsive and high-performance user experiences across client, administrator and practitioner workflows. You will be responsible for translating approved UX/UI designs into production-ready interfaces, integrating with the Portal Backend API and Azure services, implementing secure authentication and authorization, and ensuring frontend quality, performance and maintainability.

The ideal candidate should combine strong hands-on frontend engineering skills with technical leadership, architectural thinking and the ability to establish frontend best practices and mentor other engineers.

Key responsibilities:

1. Frontend Architecture and SPA Development

Lead the implementation of the Client Portal as a scalable Single-Page Application using React, with Angular considered as an alternative.
Define and maintain frontend architecture, component structures and reusable development patterns.
Develop clean, maintainable and reusable frontend components using React and Tailwind CSS.
Translate approved UX/UI wireframes and visual designs from Figma into production-ready interfaces.
Establish frontend coding standards, best practices and development guidelines.
Collaborate with backend engineers to integrate the Portal UI with REST APIs and supporting services.

2. Client-facing Portal Development

Build secure client-facing views including document upload, engagement dashboards and deliverables access.
Implement secure document upload functionality with direct browser uploads to Azure Blob Storage.
Implement upload progress indicators, status tracking and appropriate error handling.
Develop engagement dashboards and client-facing data views.
Integrate and embed Power BI dashboards using the Power BI JavaScript SDK.
Ensure client users can access only authorized engagements and associated data.

3. Admin and Practitioner Interfaces

Lead development of administrator and practitioner-facing portal experiences.
Build engagement management interfaces and user/role assignment workflows.
Implement provisioning request workflows.
Develop lifecycle management controls including archival and decommissioning.
Build audit log viewing interfaces.
Develop practitioner workbench interfaces to support engagement-related activities.
Ensure workflows provide clear validation, status updates and error handling.

4. Authentication and Authorization

Implement Azure AD / Microsoft Entra ID authentication using OIDC/OAuth.
Integrate authentication flows using the Microsoft Authentication Library (MSAL).
Implement secure login, logout and session persistence.
Implement token refresh and authentication-state management.
Develop role-based route guards for client, practitioner and administrator views.
Implement engagement-scoped access controls within the frontend.
Ensure strict data isolation between different engagements.
Follow frontend security best practices for authentication, authorization and sensitive information.

5. State Management

Design and implement client-side state management for application and engagement data.
Manage user sessions and authentication state.
Track document upload progress and upload status.
Manage provisioning request and workflow status.
Develop predictable and maintainable state-management patterns.
Ensure application state is efficiently managed to support performance and scalability.

6. Responsive Design and Cross-browser Compatibility

Build responsive layouts optimized for desktop and tablet breakpoints.
Translate Figma designs into accurate and accessible user interfaces.
Ensure consistent application behavior across Chrome, Edge and Safari.
Perform cross-browser and responsive testing.
Identify and resolve UI compatibility, usability and layout issues.

7. Frontend Testing and Quality

Establish and maintain frontend testing practices.
Write unit tests for components, business logic and frontend services.
Develop end-to-end tests covering all critical user workflows.
Test authentication, authorization, document upload, engagement access and provisioning workflows.
Ensure adequate regression coverage for major application functionality.
Identify, troubleshoot and resolve frontend defects before production deployment.

8. Frontend Performance Optimization

Lead frontend performance optimization initiatives.
Optimize application bundle size and initial load performance.
Implement lazy loading and code splitting where appropriate.
Optimize images and frontend assets.
Identify and resolve unnecessary renders and performance bottlenecks.
Optimize API interactions and client-side state updates.
Ensure a fast and responsive user experience across supported devices.

9. Technical Leadership and Collaboration

Provide technical leadership and guidance to frontend engineers.
Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to established engineering standards.
Mentor junior and mid-level frontend developers.
Lead frontend technical discussions and contribute to architectural decisions.
Collaborate closely with UX/UI designers, backend engineers, QA, DevOps and product stakeholders.
Take ownership of frontend deliverables from design and development through testing and production deployment.
Promote reusable patterns, clean code and continuous improvement across the frontend development lifecycle.

Required technical skills and competencies:

8+ years of professional frontend/software development experience.
Strong hands-on experience with ReactJS and modern frontend development.
Strong knowledge of JavaScript and/or TypeScript.
Strong hands-on experience with Tailwind CSS.
Experience building enterprise-grade Single-Page Applications.
Strong understanding of React Hooks, component architecture and state management.
Experience integrating frontend applications with REST APIs.
Strong understanding of responsive web development and cross-browser compatibility.
Experience with frontend unit testing and end-to-end testing.
Good understanding of OAuth/OIDC authentication and authorization.
Experience with role-based access control and secure frontend development.
Strong debugging and frontend performance optimization skills.
Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring frontend developers.
